When are the iPads distributed? All students new to the 1:1 learning program will receive their iPad on iPad Deployment Day. You will receive an email from your school with the date. Homeroom teachers will be distributing iPads for all returning 1:1 students.
Can we use keyboards with the iPad? We do not issue or sell keyboards. However, students are allowed to bring and use keyboards. Keyboards can be purchased at any local retailer or online.
What is AppleCare? AppleCare is coverage for accidental damage to the iPads. AppleCare is included with all district owned iPads. The coverage is for 3 years or 3 incidents, whichever comes first.

What is the Optional Insurance? If the iPad is lost or stolen, you are financially responsible for the cost of the iPad and accessories. The optional insurance is to help cover the cost of a lost or stolen iPad.
What is the difference between AppleCare and Optional Insurance? AppleCare covers accidental damage to the iPad, including broken screens. AppleCare comes with all district owned iPads. The Optional Insurance is strictly for loss or theft. This coverage is optional.
How do I sign-up for the Optional Insurance?
The form will be made available during your iPad distribution time. The cost is $40. Payment must be separate from the Instructional Materials Fee and only checks are accepted. The deadline for the 2017-18 school year is Friday, September 22, 2017.
How do I replace broken accessories? Please email firstname.lastname@example.org. Please do not purchase iPad accessories. It may be covered under warranty and may be replaced at no cost to you.
What do I do if my iPad is lost or stolen? If your child's iPad is lost or stolen, you or your child must report it immediately to your building's technology staff. You should also email email@example.com.
How do I replace lost/stolen accessories? Do not purchase replacement accessories for the iPad. All lost accessories should be reported at firstname.lastname@example.org and you will be invoiced for a replacement. If the original accessories are not received at the end of the year, you will be invoiced for a replacement. In order to avoid the possibility of paying twice, all replacements should go through our help desk at email@example.com.
How do I find school based information?
Can we remove the iPad case? No. The iPad case should remain on the iPad at all times. If you need to remove the cover for any reason, including the need to clean the iPad, please contact a building technician for assistance. This is to avoid damages to the iPad. You will be responsible for the cost of repair if the iPad is not in it’s protective case.
Will I be able to connect to the Internet at home? Parents may allow their child to connect to the Internet at home. Students will be bound by the same policies, procedures, and guidelines as at school.
Will I need the Internet to use the device at home? While it may be easier to complete assignments with access to the Internet, students will be able to download most of the information they need onto their device before they go home. In addition, they will be able to upload completed assignments at school prior to the start of the school day.
Will there be filters on the devices? The school's Internet filter works strictly when connecting to the Internet at school. The district configures restrictions to prevent explicit music and podcasts to be accessed as well as setting age restrictions for downloading any apps rated above 13. When the iPad accesses the Internet outside of school, content will not be filtered.
What control do I have of the device at home? Parents have the right to make the rules as to when your child can use the device at home.
Can I purchase apps? The district will be purchasing apps on behalf of students. The iPads will all come with a set of Core Apps for each student. Parents and students need to request permission to download any additional Apps. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org for permission requests.
Why did District 39 choose an Apple iPad? The choice of the device for student use was driven by a set of defined student and teacher needs, including but not limited to: various educational programs, battery life, resistance to viruses, ease of use, boot-up speed, wealth of educational and creative apps, teacher and student familiarity with the apps and management of these devices, accessibility features for students with various learning needs, collaboration with nearby schools participating in iPad programs including New Trier High School and the sender elementary district.
What if I forget to bring my iPad to School? Your teachers will provide you with other tools to use during the school day so that you can still participate in the classroom activities and lessons. However, it is an expectation that you will bring your iPad to school everyday.
Where can I receive technical assistance? Students can stop by their school library before or after school for technical assistance during the year or simply email email@example.com and one of our building technicians will reach out to you.
