Metrics Team Update:

Our District 39 Metrics Reopening Advisory Team conducts a weekly meeting to study important school-relevant metrics of COVID-19 and the District’s Reopening Plan in order to guide adjustments to reopening efforts and improvements in health and safety protocol.

This morning, the Metrics Team reviewed the most recent D39 Metrics Dashboard and full report. The Metrics Team discussed COVID-19 testing access for students and staff, reviewed internal metrics for staffing and operations, considered external metrics for community spread of COVID-19, and discussed in-person instruction.

Board of Education Committee of the Whole Meeting on Monday at 8:00 a.m.:
On Monday, December 7th at 8:00 a.m., the Board of Education will host a Committee of the Whole Meeting.  The agenda for this meeting is posted here.  This meeting will be livestreamed and viewable on the District 39 YouTube channel here. At this meeting, the Board will discuss a variety of topics, including:

  • COVID-19 Testing Access: The district hosted its first Ambry PCR COVID-19 Testing Event for students on Thursday, December 4th.  Approximately 150 students participated in testing on this day, and results of testing will be provided to participants this weekend.  In addition to continuing to make PCR Testing available, the Board of Education will consider a COVID-19 surveillance testing program through Safeguard Surveillance.  (This program is being implemented with students and staff at New Trier High School.)  If approved, this surveillance program will be piloted with a small group of students and staff in December, and will be launched district-wide for all students and staff the week of January 4th.  Participation in this program will be optional, but strongly encouraged.

  • In-Person Instruction:

For the week of December 7th, the District 39 Board of Education has approved the following:

  • In-Person Instruction for the District’s neediest and youngest learners, including students participating in
    • The District’s Special Education Comprehensive Needs Programs, and
    • Students in Early Childhood, Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd Grades.
  • A continued adaptive pause to in-person instruction with fully remote programming for students in grades 3-8.

For the week of December 14th and January 4th:

The Board will review and discuss external and internal metrics during its Committee of the Whole Meeting on Monday, and will make a decision at that time regarding adjustments to in-person instruction for the weeks of December 14th and January 4th.

We continue to appreciate your ongoing support.  Please stay safe this weekend, and continue to be vigilant in practicing the Three Ws: Watch your distancing, Wear a mask and Wash hands. Together, we can reduce the spread of COVID-19 and help to keep our community safe.
