Board of Education
Committee of the Whole Recap
The Board of Education gathered on Monday morning for its monthly Committee of the Whole meeting. During this meeting, the Board heard our Fall Assessment Report, which included benchmarking data from Fall NWEA MAP and aimswebPlus assessments, information on new norms for NWEA, and updated proficiency ratings for the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR). The Board was also presented with updated Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for Goals 3 and 4 of our strategic plan, and received an update regarding the 2025 estimated tax levy and 2026 summer construction projects.

Board of Education Meeting Preview
The Board of Education will convene on Monday, Oct. 27 at 7 pm at the Mikaelian Education Center for its monthly business meeting. The evening will begin with a public hearing on the District’s e-learning plan, which must be renewed every three years, before transitioning to the regular business meeting. In addition to committee reports, the Board will be presented with the Spring 2025 IAR Report and Fall Enrollment Report while also hearing a review of the 2025 estimated tax levy. Agendas and materials for all Board of Education meetings will be posted online the Friday prior to the meeting.

Parent Education Events
Last week, D39 hosted an outstanding Parent Education event titled “Generative Artificial Intelligence for Parents and Caregivers.” A recording of that presentation is available online. Please bookmark this link as it will not be publicly available on our D39 Parent Education webpage, which contains recordings of many of our past events as well as our full schedule for the 2025-26 academic year.

Please mark your calendar for our next D39 Parent Education event, a presentation and meet-and-greet with acclaimed children’s book author Derrick Barnes, which is set for Tuesday, Nov. 4. This will be an in-person only event at 6:30 pm in the Romona Elementary School auditorium. No registration is required and children are welcome to attend.

District 39 is also proud to co-sponsor Marc Brackett, Ph.D. for a pair of Family Action Network events on Wednesday, Oct. 29. Dr. Brackett will be holding a roundtable workshop from 12-1:30 pm at the Glenview Public Library focused on his most recent book “Dealing with Feeling: Use Your Emotions to Create the Life You Want,” a guide for regulating how we respond to our emotions to transform our life. Additionally, he will also be speaking at an in-person event from 7-8:30 pm that evening (Oct. 29) in the Highland Park High School auditorium. Registration is required for the roundtable workshop event and space is limited. Registration is not required to attend the evening event.
