The Vision

• The Lydia Martin Memorial Fund has generously provided the means for students to experience hands-on Mosaic  Art creation.  The District 39 Educational Foundation, which administers this and other memorial funds, awarded a Gripp Grant to the Highcrest Middle School Art Department making the project possible. 

• We will be working with mosaic artist Rochell Borrett from the Chicago Mosaic School to create a permanent series of Mosaics featuring the Highcrest “H” and interpretations of a variety of famous art images.

• The series of very large mosaics will be installed in HMS for generations of students, staff, and families to enjoy! 

• All art classes will be involved in hands-on-learning about Mosaic history, process, and technique 

•Exciting News!  The Highcrest P.T.O. recently approved funding to continue the Mosaic Project through the 2010-2011 School Year!  We are thrilled.

Many thanks to all of the wonderful parent volunteers who made our Mosaic Project a reality.  We couldn’t have done it without you!

Looking forward to our final quarter of the year, we will be in need of volunteers to come and assist us in cutting glass and helping students.  We will post the dates as soon as we can share further information.  We would appreciate 3 volunteers per time slot, and the options are as follows:

• 9:10-10:34 a.m.

• 10:38-12:01 p.m.

• 12:51-2:14 p.m.

• 2:17-3:40 p.m.

Mosaic Artist

Rochell Borrett

Beginning this month, Highcrest Art Students will work with Chicago Mosaic artist Rochell Borrett to create a series of permanent Mosaics for our school!
