Introduction
Each student receives instruction in the core subjects of writing, reading,
mathematics, science, and social studies. All students receive instruction
in physical education daily, including a rotation of health and safety
classes. Four foreign languages are offered at Wilmette Junior High School:
French, German, Latin and Spanish. A music program featuring band, chorus and orchestra is available. Throughout the year, seventh grade
students participate in related studies in art, drama, public speaking,
and music classes. Eighth grade students participate in related studies
classes each semester. Students select from classes offered in photography,
painting, sculpture and ceramics, drawing and design, mixed chorus, general
music, stage acting, and technical theater.
In addition to academics, students are encouraged to participate in
a variety of extracurricular athletic activities, including volleyball,
basketball, field hockey, soccer, and dance. Due to our partnership with
the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), we are also able to offer students
a variety of non-athletic opportunities, including yearbook, student
council, Latin club, art clubs, photography, and many more. Youth Connection,
a non-profit organization, sponsors open gyms, community service, a school
play, art club, The Den, and dances for students.
Parents remain actively involved in school life and value the school’s
commitment to excellence. The Parent-Teacher Organization contributes
to the positive school climate and good will. The PTO is a visible and
welcome presence in the school.
