Jazz Bowl

The Original
My Interpretation

Presented by: Ben C.
Title of Artwork: Jazz Bowl
Year of Artwork: 1931
Artist: Viktor Schreckengost
Dates of Artist's Birth and Death: 1906 -
Nationality: American
Materials Used: Glazed earthenware with engobe, sgraffito

My Description: The outside of the oval shaped bowl is black, blue, smooth, and has thick lines. There are many different shapes. It is fun with a large street and a downtown scene. The inside is starry, jazzy, and wavy. There are also moons.
The Big Idea: I think the Big Idea is the artist is showing fun and happiness since it is a downtown “jazz” scene.
The Chicago Connection: A connection to Chicago would be a downtown scene with jazz and fun. Blue reminds me of jazz and the blues. All the lines and shapes make it like Chicago with all the detail.
