| Address: | The Adler Planetarium is located on 1300 Lake Shore Drive Chicago, IL 60605. |
| A brief history of this landmark: | The founder is Max Adler. The architect is Ernest Grunsfeld. The Adler Planetarium is the first planetarium built in the western hemisphere. The exterior dome is 88 feet diameter, and the projection dome is 68 feet diameter. The stars are projected on the dome. The domed roof is made of green copper. The collections include; ancient telescopes, meteorites, displays of the solar system, and space-themed artwork. The oldest scientific instrument is the 12th century Persian Astrolabe. This device is able to act like a compass and can guess the sunrise and sunset times. |
| The importance of this landmark to Chicago is: | You can see the solar system and learn things about the solar system. |
| I think people should visit this landmark because: | There are lots of things to do. You can go to one of two theaters and see a movie on the solar system or go and look at the collections and artwork of things that have to do with astronomy. |
