There is a lot to know about the Cubs. They were first called the White Stockings. They became the Cubs in 1899. In 1907 and 1908, the Cubs won the World Series. They have not won a World Series since. Billy Williams and Ernie Banks were Cubs players. They are in the Hall of Fame. The Cubs have been in the Major Leagues since 1876. Wrigley Gum helped fund the field. Wrigley Field is one of the oldest ballparks in the U.S. It was built in 1916. The outfield wall is made of bricks and is covered with ivy. If a player would run into it, the ivy would cushion him. Wrigley Field got lights in 1989. Harry Carry is a famous Cub announcer. There was a seminary where Wrigley Field is now. The Cubs are a special part of Chicago. |
