Fifty Years Through the Eyes of Norman Rockwell

We are third grade students who attend Central Elementary School in Wilmette, Illinois. This year, our school celebrated its 50th birthday with a year-long party. Each month we had a special decades day and assembly - 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. Our class started the year with a look at life in 1949. In May, we visited the Norman Rockwell - Picures for the American People exhibit at the Chicago Historical Society. After viewing the exhibit and studying Rockwell's style of painting, each student selected a specific Rockwell painting from the last 50 years. Each student created a modern day version of the painting. Finally, each student compared and contrasted life in the Rockwell version of the painting to daily life in Wilmette today.
