Grade 3 Virtual Museum Project

Central Elementary School, Wilmette, IL

Five Decades at Central School

We are third grade students who attend Central Elementary School in Wilmette, Illinois. This year, our school celebrated its 50th birthday with a year long party. Each month we had a special decades day and assembly - 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s.

For our Decades Project, former students of Central School from many years ago were contacted to come to school and be interviewed by my students.

The children generated multifaceted questions to ask those former students being interviewed. The students were organized into smaller groups by decades. While some asked questions, others took notes. Each interview session was taped for any necessary reference.

After the interviews, the students met to collect the information and draw conclusions for each of the fourteen questions. They then used the information and conclusions to complete their web pages. A digital camera was used to take pictures of artifacts from the various decades to be used for the graphic sections of our virtual museum.
