Wilmette Public Schools District 39 has a strong commitment to making our schools a safe yet welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. To this end the District has developed an extensive Crisis Response Plan which details for staff an appropriate response in a wide variety of emergencies. Additionally, each school has an established Crisis Team that is available to assist in the event of an emergency. This Crisis Team regularly reviews procedures and facilities to assure that each school continues to keep safety as a focus of attention. This team of professionals is also available for providing social and emotional support to students, families and staff in the event of an emergency.

The district also has numerous prevention programs in place. These programs include teaching diversity and tolerance, as well as programs aimed at preventing bullying. Other programs include Easing the Teasing, Early Warning Signs, and Rough Spot Training. All of these programs were developed with full participation from parents and staff.
