Thank you for your interest in substitute teaching in Wilmette District 39. Substitute teachers are critical for providing continuity of instruction when our teachers are absent. Your assistance helps us to maintain an ongoing program for our students in spite of emergencies and illnesses that occur among our faculty. According to the Illinois State Board of Education, substitute teachers must have at least a Bachelor’s degree to qualify for a substitute certificate, or hold a current Illinois teaching certificate. For information on applying for a substitute or teaching certificate, please consult ISBE at www.isbe.net. You will need to complete certification form 73-03 and submit it to the Region 05-North Cook Intermediate Service Center along with sealed transcripts and a $115 money order. You may apply online to be considered for a substitute teacher position, at any time. We typically do not list it as a specific job vacancy. Please use our online application system and select “Substitute Teacher” for the position desired. We periodically review candidate’s online credentials/applications to make additions to our substitute list. Due to the number of qualified candidates, we are unable to interview every applicant. We will contact you if we desire to schedule an interview. Candidates who interview for a position and not selected will be notified in writing. All applicant credentials will be kept on file for one year. If you are selected as a substitute teacher, you will need to complete an FBI fingerprint background check and child abuse/neglect check, each of which must be satisfactory to the District, as part of the hiring process. Once you are approved for the substitute list, you will be provided with a log-in and password for our substitute system, AESOP, which is used to report absences and assign substitutes. Information about substitute teaching in District 39 is contained in the District 39 Substitute Teacher Handbook.
