From the Principal
Hi, Families,
-
SCOOP This week's Scoop is available online: www.centralschoolpta.org/Revised_Central_PTA/The_Scoop.html
-
BEFORE SCHOOL SUPERVISION With the nicer weather approaching, we thought it was a good time to remind you that our outside supervision does not begin before 8:40 AM. We know that children like to arrive early to use the playground, field, and blacktop areas. With safety as a priority, please ensure that your kiddos aren't arriving on school property ahead of our supervisors. Thanks so much!
- LOST AND FOUND One more week and all of our lost items (things without names) will be finding new homes with a local charity. Please make sure that your favorite student makes a pass by the Lost and Found before spring break. Secretary Sallie is very sad that her shoe size is larger than a size 3. We've got a pair of NEW, size 3, purple and grey Sorel velcro winter boots in the Lost and Found since the first day back from winter break. Anyone? Also, a lovely pair of hamburger earings? Come on...this valuable jewelry must belong to someone! And lots more!
- NEWS FROM THE D39 FOUNDATION
The D39 Educational Foundation's spring programs are in high gear! Here are some recent announcements:
• Spring 2011 Gripp Grants were approved on March 2 -- The new grants include a solar-powered car unit for WJHS 8th grade science students, a hands-on ecology/ecosystem program at Central School, and a plan to phase out plastic water bottles in the WJHS cafeteria. At Harper, third graders will hear a special presentation by Dino Robinson of the Shorefront Legacy Center on the important historical contributions and lives of African-Americans on the North Shore. Innovative math practices is the focus of another WJHS Gripp Grant, which will send a team of junior high math teachers to attend the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics annual conference in April. More information about these and other grants and the Gripp Grant application process are available at www.d39foundation.org.
• 2011 Distinguished Citizen Award... and the winner is CAROLE DIBO! -- Our community is fortunate to have the vibrant Wilmette Theatre and its programs to mentor young actors. All are invited on Tuesday, May 3 to an award ceremony at the Michigan Shores Club. Please come meet the creative force behind these programs, Carole Dibo, and celebrate her contributions to our local arts scene. Tickets/information are available on the Foundation website: www.d39foundation.org.
• You're invited to come see the movie "Tapped" on Wednesday, April 6 (7 pm WJHS) -- As part of the WJHS water-bottle phase out Gripp Grant, Go Green Wilmette and WJHS PTO will be screening "Tapped," a startling look at the bottled-water industry and the environmental benefits of relying on tap water instead. All D39 families and members of the community are invited to this special showing -- and please bring along your friends and neighbors.
- COMMUNITY MEETING FOR REFERENDUM INFORMATION
Did you know that all District Financial information about the referendum is available online? Go to the district website and click on the referendum links: www.wilmette39.org Additionally, the community is invited to an informational meeting with Dr. Ray Lechner on Tuesday, March 22nd at 7PM at the Community Recreation Center, 300 Glenview Road, Wilmette.
Have a great weekend...
