Habit of Mind: Taking Responsible Risks
From the Principal
Dear McKenzie Families,
Throughout the week we have found many opportunities to practice this month's Habit of Mind. We're learning how to apply past knowledge to new situations, making it easier to explore new topics. Our students are stretching their thinking, asking "why?" and "what else?" They are researching using multiple sources and revising their rough drafts for word choice and meaning. This week's Science Night gave us yet another chance to put the habit to use, as over 100 parents and their children enjoyed investigating several different explorations that were set up around the gym. Everyone was an amazing scientist that night! A special thank you to our Parent Learning Network for providing us with this wonderful night of CONNECTED learning.
With parent-teacher conferences fast-approaching, online sign-up is no longer available. Anyone who has not yet made an appointment is urged to contact your child's classroom teacher to schedule a conference during one of the remaining times. Conferences take place this coming Thursday from 1:20-8:00 p.m. and Friday from 8:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. We look forward to seeing you then. There will be an early release on Thursday, with 1st-3rd graders dismissed at 12:15 p.m. There is no AM Kindergarten that day, however PM Kindergartners will attend from 8:55-10:20 a.m. Lastly, our 4th graders will extend their day by taking part in Highcrest Middle School's Music Showcase. Details of this trip will be sent in a separate email to 4th grade parents.
