Band and Orchestra

Note: This page was written by a grade six band student in fall 1995.

Band is a big priority at Highcrest. There are about 94 kids in the sixth-grade band and about 150 in the three fifth-grade bands. Another 104 students play in the three orchestras. Everybody enjoys playing their instruments. I play the saxophone. During Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, the whole band meets in a private music room to practice the tunes. Once a week every musician meets the band director for a private lesson. The teacher, Mr. Jampole, tries to choose some jazzy and rock pieces so that the band members have more fun. For example, right now we're studying FUN FUN FUN by the BEACH BOYS and HEY JUDE by the BEATLES. The orchestra meets every Wednesday and Friday in the cafeteria. They study Mozart and the Brandenburg Concerto by Bach. All of music in Highcrest is fun, fun, fun!
