GENERAL MUSIC

... is part of the related studies program offered to all Highcrest students. This comprehensive course includes singing, playing, listening, composing, music reading, music theory, and music history. Students learn how to play the recorder, Malmark hand chimes, hand and ethnic drums, and other percussion instruments. General Music classes are taught by Mrs. Boddy and Mrs. Garland.

... have been organized to serve Highcrest's approx. 350 beginning instrumental and choral music students.

GRADE 6 BAND (Highcrest Hawk Band)

... is directed by Mr. Holden and rehearses each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 8:00 AM in Music Room 134.

Group lessons (sectionals) are held once per week during the school day on a rotating schedule.

 

 

GRADE 6 CHORUS (Highcrest Hawk Chorus)

... is directed by Mrs. Boddy and rehearses every Tuesday and Thursday at 8:00 AM in the Auditorium.

 

 

GRADE 6 ORCHESTRA (Highcrest Hawk Orchestra)

... is directed by Ms. Guili and rehearses every Wednesday and Friday at 8:00 AM in the Cafeteria.

FACULTY

Mrs. Paulette Boddy was part of the staff that opened Highcrest Middle School in 1995 and has taught in the Wilmette Public Schools since that exciting opening day. She has previously taught in Lake Zurich and Crystal Lake, Illinois. Mrs. Boddy is the Director of Choruses at Highcrest Middle School and at Wilmette Junior High School. Additionally, she teaches General Music at Highcrest.

Mrs. Boddy holds a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from the University of Illinois and a Master of Music Education from VanderCook College of Music, with additional graduate studies at VanderCook and others. She is an accomplished pianist, singer, and conductor, with extensive professional experience as a vocalist, accompanist, choral director, and voice coach. Mrs. Boddy currently serves as a worship team musician at Harvest Bible Chapel in Rolling Meadows and Elgin, IL.

Mr. Brad Butz was part of the staff that opened Highcrest Middle School in 1995 and has been teaching in Wilmette Public Schools since 1989. He has previously served as band and orchestra director in Northbrook School District 27 and as orchestra director in Palatine School District 15 and Des Plaines School District 62. He has also taught privately at Maine South High School and at Harper College. Mr. Butz holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee and an Master of Music Education from VanderCook College of Music, with additional graduate studies at VanderCook and others.

Mr. Butz has been contributed to several professional journals and books, and has written and presented professional development clinics on instrumental music education. Mr. Butz and the Highcrest Orchestras have been featured in national and international publications including Band and Orchestra Product News and Bass World. Mr. Butz is listed in Who's Who in America.

Mr. Butz played in the Civic Orchestra of Chicago (the training orchestra of the Chicago Symphony) for five years, and currently plays bass professionally in the Chicago area. Some of the groups he performs with are the Elmhurst, Elgin, Fox Valley, and Northwest Symphony Orchestras, Moody Bible Church in Chicago, New Philharmonic of the College of DuPage, and the monthly Bach Cantata series at Grace Lutheran Church in River Forest.

Ms. Ann Dufek has been teaching in Wilmette Public Schools since 1999, having previously taught in the Evanston Public Schools. She co-teaches the 5th grade Band at Highcrest Middle School and is the director of the Wilmette Junior High School Concert Band and Lab Jazz Band. Ms. Dufek is also an adjunct faculty member in music education at Northwestern University. Ms. Dufek holds a Bachelor of Music from University of Miami and a Master of Music Education from Northwesten University, with additional graduate studies at VanderCook, Northwestern, Miami, and others. She has extensive professional experience as a bassoonist.

Mrs. Annalee Garland is in her 2nd year with Wilmette Public Schools; she teaches grades 5 and 6 general music at Highcrest. Mrs. Garland holds a Bachelor's Degree in Music from Frostburg State University.

Ms. Laura Guili is in her first year teaching with Wilmette Public Schools, but will be a familiar face to Highcrest, having student taught at Highcrest last Fall. Ms. Guili will be teaching 5th and 6th grade orchestra and Wire Choir this year. She will also assist teaching 5th grade band. Ms. Guili holds a Bachelor of Music and a Bachelor of Arts in biology from Lawrence University and a Master of Music Education from Northwestern University. Ms. Guili’s orchestra teaching experiences range from working with the London Symphony Orchestra's education department to creating her own educational outreach orchestra. She also performs and conducts professionally in the Chicago area.

Mr. Michael Holden is in his first year with Wilmette Public Schools and teaches 5th and 6th grade band. He previously taught music in the Schaumburg School District. Mr. Holden holds a Bachelor of Science in Business from Indiana University and a Master of Music from Northern Illinois University. Mr. Holden currently performs on trumpet and horn with the Glenview Concert Band and the Red, White, & Brass Band.
