Flexible Block Scheduling and our Middle School Philosophy
Highcrest Middle School is committing to researching the best practices in Middle School education. This year we are introducing and new flexible schedule that restructures resources by optimizing time, space, and staff. Our schedule will also facilitate varied curriculum opportunities and teaching strategies to improve student learning.
Our flexible block schedule will include two days a week (Wednesday and Thursday) where teachers and students work in two-80 minutes blocks of instruction and one-40 minute block. This allows teachers to provide more quality time and instruction to students, more in-depth exploration of topics, and better curricular integration. The other three days of the week (Monday, Tuesday, and Friday) teachers and students will work in 40-minute classes for 9 periods.
