A Message from Dr. Susan Kick...
Harper is an elementary building that serves children
from kindergarten through fourth grade, and parent involvement is
an
integral component of our building. The size of our student
body has doubled over the past ten years, with enrollment being over
425 students. Harper provides students with a warm, nurturing environment
that focuses on the social,
emotional,
and
academic
development of all children. The majority of our students have
attended at least two years of preschool before beginning kindergarten,
and our students consistently score well on national, state, and
local
assessments. Within the building we offer a team of related arts
teachers (PE, library, music, art, technology, Spanish) learning
behavior specialists, a speech pathologist, a school psychologist,
an occupational
therapist,
a
social worker,
a differentiation support teacher, reading teachers, and English language
teachers. These positions are in place to ensure that we are meeting
the needs
of
all the children
in the
building.
Our PTO is an integral component of the building.
Through countless hours of volunteer work and fund raisers,
the PTO helps
support a variety of programs and activities such as After
School Clubs, Book Fairs, Great Books,
Student
Council, Yearbook, Chorus, Civics and Safety, and Environmental
Awareness. Additionally, the PTO funds and organizes the Student
Enrichment
Program which supports the curriculum by giving students the opportunity
for field trips, guest speakers, and fine arts performances. We,
as
a school, are very thankful for the efforts of our PTO. These enrichment
activities have a significant impact on the educational experience
of
Harper children.
Harper School is dedicated to creating a climate that
meets the needs of all children and helps them to become successful and
responsible life-long learners. Our MISSION STATEMENT is as follows:
