As part of the Strategic Plan for District
39, the process of curriculum mapping is now used to communicate
our curriculum. Mapping provides a two-fold look at the curriculum
in District 39: a single grade level for a student and a student’'s
K-8 educational curriculum program. For each subject at each grade
level, “master maps,” the core of curriculum for all
students in Wilmette Public Schools, have been created and agreed
to by teachers and administrators. The maps are organized in a
calendar-based format, but the actual timing and sequence of each
unit of study is determined by the individual teacher based on
the needs of the students in his/her particular class. Classroom
teachers may address some goals separately and may integrate others
into broader, thematic units of study. Curriculum topics may also
be covered in a different sequence than they are listed.
Additionally, the classroom teacher
will adapt the curriculum creatively during the year to meet the
needs of each child. Opportunities to enhance the social and emotional
growth of students will be offered as well.

Reporting
This year, 2008-2009, teachers in the
district will be using a new reporting system. The new report
cards are designed to provide a stronger, more consistent system
for teachers, parents, and students to share important information
about children in Wilmette District 39.
